Hammer and Hope/The Black Radical Project, Inc. Privacy Statement

Effective as of 15 February, 2023.

The Black Radical Project, Inc., which publishes Hammer and Hope (“TBR,” “we,” “our,” “us”), owns and operates www.hammerandhope.org (the “Site”). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes what type of information is collected by the Site and how that information is used.

Where applicable, you consent to the use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy each time you visit our Site.

Personally Identifiable Information

You may visit the Site anonymously without being required to provide us with any personal information. Certain requests and features, however, do require that you provide us with some personal information in order to provide the requested services. We may collect this information when, for example, you: sign up to Hammer and Hope email list; send an email to us through the “contact us” feature on the Site; register for events; make a donation; purchase something on an online shop; submit a pitch or submission via the Site; or apply for a career opportunity through an online portal.

When you participate in activities on the Site that require a payment, such as making a donation, a purchase, or registering for an event that charges a fee, you will be asked to provide your billing information, such as a credit card, in addition to other personally identifying information, to process the payment via our third-party vendor. Credit card or bank information is only used to process your payment and will not be stored or used for any other purpose. If you opt to make a recurring donation, however, your payment information will be stored solely for that purpose. Our vendors are organizations that provide secured sites for online financial transactions and have their own privacy and security practices.

Non-Personal Information

We also collect certain non-personal information (data in a form that does not directly identify you) by automated means when you visit the Site. This may include your IP address, cookie information, browser type, system type, and the referring URL. We do so to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer the Site, and for statistical metrics used to track Site visitor traffic. This information will not be used in a manner that is intended to identify you personally unless legally required to do so. From time to time, it may be shared with third parties and we may use third-party tracking services, including Google Analytics.

Cookies

The Site uses "cookie" messages to enhance your experience while using the Site. They remind us who you are and your preferences for our website based on what you've done and told us before. The "cookie" is placed in your computer and is read when you come back to our website. Cookies let us take you to the information and features you're particularly interested in. They also let us track your usage of the Site so we know which parts of our sites are most popular. If you prefer not to receive cookies, you can change the settings on your browser to refuse cookies but it is possible that some areas of our Site will not function properly when you view them.

How Your Information May Be Used

We use your personal information for the purpose for which you provided it. We may also use it to send you information about our programs and upcoming events, as well as other material that we think may be of interest to you. You may choose to opt out at any time, which will cease all communications from us. We may also use your information to track who is using the site and how people are using the Site. This lets us see which of our features are the most popular so we can better serve our readers. It also lets us provide aggregate data about our traffic (not identifying you personally, but showing how many visitors used which features, for example) to outside parties.

We may also share your information with trusted partners and service providers who work on behalf or, or with us, to provide requested services or to help communicate with you about our work, upcoming events, and collaborations between us and other organizations. It will not be shared with third parties for their own marketing purposes without your prior express consent.

We allow some service providers to compile and use certain aggregated data for other purposes once it has been de-identified, such as improvement of their products or benchmarking for their other clients. We won’t agree to that unless we are confident that the data won’t be recombined with other information to create any record about you as an identifiable individual.

We require our service providers to whom we transfer your personal information to agree to take reasonable security measures in the handling and storage of that information. For service providers to whom we transfer particularly sensitive personal information, we may also undergo a more intensive assessment of their platforms and security practices to verify their commitments to maintain the confidentiality and privacy of that information in their possession.

Email Privacy

We do not sell or rent email addresses to anyone. Nor do we provide email addresses to third parties for any third-party marketing purposes.

External Links

The Site may include links to external websites. These links do not fall under our domain, and we are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of external websites. Your use of any linked website is solely at your own risk.

Mandatory Disclosures

We may disclose your data to third parties if we are required to do so by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or other legal process, a court order, or government reporting obligations, or if we determine that sharing data about you is necessary to detect, prevent, and respond to misuse of the Site or privacy and security threats to the Site, employees, or visitors to the Site. We will object to legal demands for access to your information that we believe to be improper.

Security and Location; Transfer of Information

We take reasonable physical, electronic, and administrative measures to safeguard the information we collect. This includes placing account information in secure files that are only accessible to authorized personnel. Nevertheless, despite our best efforts, no transmission over the internet can be guaranteed 100% secure. We cannot ensure or warrant the security of such information. When you provide us with your information, you do so at your own risk.

TBR is based in the United States. No matter where you are located, your information will be collected and processed in the United States. The laws of the United States may differ from the laws in the country where you live. You hereby consent to your information being processed in the United States.

If TBR should ever be involved in the sale, merger, liquidation, dissolution, or transfer of substantially all of our assets, personal information may be sold, assigned, or transferred to the party acquiring those assets in order to permit it to continue operating the Site. By using this Site and submitting your information to us, you consent to the transfer of your information in this manner.

We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of thirteen. If you become aware that a child has provided information to our Site, please contact us.
